I long to help every needy person in the world, Lord. Perhaps the most effective way to do this is by praying that you will send help wherever it is needed. Meanwhile, there is my corner of the universe with its many needs. Some of these are surely within my reach: half of my sandwich to the person standing near the freeway ramp with a sign; an evening spend going through my closet and setting aside items to donate; a weekend afternoon of helping with events at my church; a monthly visit to the sick, homebound or imprisoned. It’s a privilege to honor you by extending your compassion-in person.
